An Impresario is an Italian word for someone who undertakes some action. This is an individual who organizes, invents, creates projects, and spins something out of nothing using insight and connection. She is a pathfinder, an improviser – someone who tries to create some kind of value where none existed before. The way things stand, most impresarios employ their skills for other individuals or organizations. And the question is; what plausible reason would you have to not pursue this art of being an impresario and then direct it to your own interests?
The Problem
When it comes to engaging in some type of forward momentum for yourself, especially in today’s environment, you immediately look for someone else to handle it – better get a pro to guide me through this. But the realities of actually being able to hire someone to put us on the infamous “right path” are a challenge for many in a few areas, those being; financial, having enough time to commit to a program, the “trust” issue of who you’re dealing with as they all seem to promise the moon, and the fear of yielding to someone else’s scripted vision for you which seems to put your instinctual proclivities on the back burner. You’re looking to get beyond the herd mentality by seemingly signing up with another herd of followers – tough call!
The Solution
You become the pathfinder for your own interests – you take the responsibility of creating more meaningful events in your day to day structure – you take a closer look at your connections and see how they can lead you to the new connections you desire – you decide where your talents (all of your talents) can be best served, and then create a game plan. There are great teachers and mentors out there, without question. But that should not deter you from the work you can personally do for yourself. And if any mentor is worth their salt, besides their guidance, they would be telling you to invest in this kind of self-development as well.
Some Thoughts
What you’re actually doing here is becoming a bit of an autodidact. An autodidact is a self-learner, a self-educated individual if you will. Da Vinci was one of the greats in this area – not a bad role model. With the power of the internet and the ease of grasping educational material through Amazon, this is a completely reachable goal.
Beyond the advantages of the net are a plethora of “free” educational institutions and programs available to you such as The University of the People and World Education University (tuition-free Universities), free video educational outlets such as Big Think, YouTube EDU, and Reddit Lectures, and free book sources such as Open Textbooks and Scribd.
The people that have seriously taken on this type of self-action are members of the newly formed Creative Class, which is now the dominant class in terms of wealth and income. All that’s needed is a dose of commitment, and you’re on your way. I’ll leave you with a pretty well known quote.
“Formal education will make you a living; self-education will make you a fortune.”
